CD review SOLUTION .45 "Nightmares in the Walking State - part1"

(7/10) Christian Älvestam and Jani Stafenovic jammed and started to work on a few song ideas a few years ago, not having in mind to realize them on an album. That was back in 2007. 

Now, 8 years later, Solution .45 comes with a new longplayer, which is their second album after having had released the debut "For Aeons Past" in 2010.

The new record comes with ten melodic death metal songs that partly remind me to the typical Gothenborg sound. But the guys from Skövde, Sweden add more melodic parts to their music. Songs like "Winning When Losing is All" shows some brutal death parts. Next to those heavy sections with deep growls the song contains very melodic elements with clean vocals and highly melodic, almost catchy, leads.

Next to those 'a bit of everything' ones there are more focussed tunes. The opener "Wanderer From the Fold" is a raging melodic death metal track while "In Moment of Desapir" does it without growls at all. It is a half ballad that has some very silent parts. It's more prog metal rather than death.

In general I think that Solution .45 has quite some potential. But for me it's also too many different elements included in the 10 songs on "Nightmares in the Walking State - Part 1". Solution .45 is somehow caught in the middle. They are brutally heavy, they are progressive and they are melodic - but what are they really?

Maybe 'part 2', I guess there will be one, will tell us more.
