CD review INDIAN "From all purity"

Veröffentlicht am 30. Januar 2014 von Markus W. in Indian, Sludge, Doom Metal, CD Review, News

(6/10) This is hard to digest. Indian from Chicago released their new album. "From all purity" is a real mean and nasty apocalyptical piece of music. This album is an infernal soundtrack which has an intensity which can hardly be described.

Indian plays a mix out of sludge and doom metal. As much as I like the doom approach on the one hand as much I have a hard time with the sludge elements on the other hand. Six songs demands really everything from you. Slow doom riffs, heavy as tons of steel, finds their way into your ear channel. The question is, if your brain can handle what you hear. Coming to the vocals I must say that there is a new way. We know singing, growling and screaming. Here it's more vomiting out the vocals with a high level anger. Maybe cool, but honestly not really my thing. I would appreciate the album if it would be fully instrumental.

"From all purity" is the soundtrack for the end of the world. You have to appreciate this kind of music if you consider this album to become one of yours. "From all purity" is more for a special small target group and for sure not for the big mass.

Giving a rating is hard this time. I think it is an 8 for fans of this kind of music and 4 for all the others. So it will get a 6 in total.

CD review Chrome Division "Infernal rock eternal"

Veröffentlicht am 29. Januar 2014 von Markus W. in Chrome Division, Hardrock, Heavy Metal, CD Review, News

(7/10) You might know that Chrome Division is the rock'n'roll side of Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir. And it's the dirty kind of rock'n'roll they perform.

After having added already three records ("Doomsday rock'n'roll", "Booze, broads and beelzebub" and "3rd round knockout") to their discography Chrome Division released a few days ago their forth album called "Infernal rock eternal". What you get with this album is not a big surprise. It's 12 rock bastards and most of them are spot on. What is slightly different is the fact that the stoner elements from the former CDs is almost gone. What stays is the big portion of Motörhead.

The guitar based intro "Good morning riot" kicks off the album. It leads to the first highlight called "Endless night". With some interesting guitar effects the song becomes a grooving monster. To my surprise also meloncholic "Lady of perpetual sorrow" sounds really good. Starting as a ballad it builds up to a heavy but still melodic power song with strong guitars. For me the track has some parallels with the Black Label Society. Cool. Chrome Division is best when they keep the pace high. "OI' is one of those examples. The song is kicking-ass and has definitely some punk spirit. I think it's actually the best song on the album.

Next to those really cool songs there are also songs like "The absinthe voyage" which is more average. The same goes for "You're dead now". These songs just pass by, they are lacking energy and they don't stick.

To sum up: "Infernal rock eternal" became a good rock album even though I had the feeling that I have heard everything already earlier in a better way. But it's the mix of things which makes the album interesting. Look on it as a good soundtrack for your next party. Not more, but also not less.

  1. Good morning riot
  2. Endless nights
  3. (She's) Hot tonight
  4. The absinthe voyage
  5. Lady of perpetual sorrow
  6. The moonshine years
  7. No bet for free
  8. On the run again
  9. Mistress in madness
  10. Reaper on the hunt
  11. You're dead now
  12. Ol

CD review SYNAESTHESIA "Synaesthesia"

Veröffentlicht am 29. Januar 2014 von Markus W. in Synaesthesia, Prog Rock, CD Review, News

(8/10) Actually I don't like bands with names you can't speak out without any mistake. With Synaesthesia it is the same and also slightly different. The band name, which reflects a neurological phenomena, is one of those names which gives you a hard time. But it's different with the music. This gives you a good time.

Synaesthesia is first of all the band of Adam Warne. Inspired by his father's music taste and the study time at the Brit School of Performing Arts and Technology Warne started to become interested in progressive music. The 20 years old guy, a multi-instrumentalist, wrote progressive songs for the debut album which are influenced by bands like Riverside, Muse and Porcupine Tree. Synaesthesia is next to Warne also Ollie Hannifan (g), Sam Higgins (g), Robin Johnson (d) and Peter Episcopo (b). All those guys together created with the debut-album a really nice piece of music.

It starts with the epic 22 minutes opener "Time, tension & intervention". A dense keyboard sound builds the base for this song. But next to that there are also excellent tempo breaks like the faster part in the middle of the song where guitars take over. After this eruption the song takes out the heaviness and the keyboard takes over again for the more relaxed sound elements. "Sacrifice" is a rocking song in which guitars and keyboards fight for the ascendancy. The winner is the song. Warne intuitively creates really great melodies represented in songs like "Epiphany" and "Life's what you make of it". Next to the earlier mentioned bands I also think, that Dream Theater belongs to Synaesthesia's faves. If I listen to the instrumental "Technology killed the kids" I can see the parallels with the prog-metal pioneers.

Resumee: Synaesthesia released an exciting and fresh prog rock album which manages the tightrope walk between complexity and melody. Exciting.

  1. Time, tension & intervention
  2. Sacrifice
  3. Noumenon
  4. Epiphany
  5. Good riddance
  6. Technology killed the kids
  7. Life's what you make of it

CD review TRANSATLANTIC "Kaleidoscope"

Veröffentlicht am 29. Januar 2014 von Markus W. in Tranatlantic, Prog Rock, CD Review, News

(9/10) I don't want to use the word 'supergroup' too much, since it is used often in a bit of an inflationary way. But Transatlantic for sure deserves to be named as a supergroup. Just looking on the band members tells you that we have the 'who is who' of the prog rock scene combined in one band. Neal Morse, Roine Stolt, Mike Portnoy and Pete Trewavas are just great musicians. But in my point of view it needs more than just putting together a bunch of excellent guys. It's also about the cooperation of those outstanding musicians. This is the case with Transatlantic. They are equal with each other and listening to their music gives the impression, that it's not the different egos which needs to be represented as much as possible and compete with each other. It is more that the passion for music is leading the band and makes them standing as a rock.

The result is an album like "Kaleidoscope". Their newest release has in total 5 songs. Two of them are with 25 / 31 minutes even longer than some EP/album from other bands. Those songs are building the framework of this album. "Into the blue" is with 25 minutes the opener of the disc, while the title track "Kaleidoscope" finalises a phantastic journey through sound. Both songs are like an exciting story. You just want to listen how it continous. It never gets boring. Transatlantic build so many different ideas, parts and elements into those masterpieces that it's pure pleasure to listen and dream. Great melodies are combined with interlligent arcs of suspense and awesome harmonies are creating a soundscapes which is just to enjoy. Again, the music and the song is in the lead - not the individual ego and a ambition to play as much as possible tunes within an as short as possible time.

Embedded into these two epical tracks there are another 3 songs. Less long but same quality level. There is "Shine", written by Morse even before his "Momentum" album, which gives you the idea of an morning dawn. Starting with an acoustic guitar the songs develops into a beautiful rock song with great harmonies and a cool lead guitar. "Black as the sky" is rocking even more. Keyboards creates the base for dense sound. It's amazing how easy it seems for the band to write awesome melodies without getting even close to pop. It's prog rock on an extremly high level. With "Beyond the sun" the album also has a real ballad. Piano- and string based the song is really touching since it transports a lot of emotions and feelings.

After 80 minutes the story is told and Transatlantic leaves you behind with a mix of astonishment and obeisance. "Kaleidoscope" is for sure a highlight of the year.

  1. Into the blue
  2. Shine
  3. Black as the sky
  4. Beyond the sun
  5. Kaleidoscope

And here comes the more detailed news:

Los Angeles, CA (January 28, 2014) – After more than three decades together, iconic rock ‘n roll band MÖTLEY CRÜE announced today their Final Tour and the band’s ultimate retirement. The announcement was solidified when the band signed a formal Cessation Of Touring Agreement, effective at the end of 2015, in front of global media in Los Angeles today. Celebrating the announcement of this Final Tour, the band will perform on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live TONIGHT and will appear on CBS This Morning TOMORROW MORNING.

With over 80 million albums sold, MÖTLEY CRÜE has sold out countless tours across the globe and spawned more than 2,500 MÖTLEY CRÜE branded items sold in over 30 countries. MÖTLEY CRÜE has proven they know how to make a lasting impression and this tour will be no different; Fans can expect to hear the catalogue of their chart- topping hits and look forward to mind-blowing, unparalleled live production.  “When it comes to putting together a new show we always push the envelope and that’s part of Motley Crue’s legacy,” explains Nikki Sixx (bass).  “As far as letting on to what we’re doing, that would be like finding out what you’re getting for Christmas before you open the presents.  We think in an age of too much information, we’d like to keep some surprises close to our chest until we launch the Final Tour.”

The Final Tour presented by Dodge and produced by Live Nation will kick off in North America on July 2nd in Grand Rapids, MI and reach 72 markets before hitting international territories in 2015.   To Live Nation MÖTLEY CRÜE tours are not only box office successes but artistically their shows have set the bar for production and entertainment value. "There's no arguing that Motley Crue have been and always will be the definitive bad boys of rock and roll," says Rick Franks, Live Nation's Regional President of North America Concerts. "But behind all those notorious stories is a legendary rock band that has revolutionized heavy metal and created some of the biggest hits in music history.  They are a hugely successful global brand and a touring powerhouse.   Everyone at Live Nation has a tremendous amount of respect for these hard working and extremely talented gentlemen.   The music industry will never have another Motley Crue."

The Dodge brothers were a notorious duo, so it seemed only natural to partner with the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band.  "Whenever I talk to people about Motley Crue, the common thread is how cool and relevant the band remains even after 33 years," said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO, Dodge Brand, Chrysler Group LLC.  "This irreverent 'staying power' resonates deeply with the Dodge brand as we turn the corner on our 100 year anniversary. What better way to celebrate the band's final tour and the 25th anniversary of Kickstart My Heart than to do it together?"

Fans can look forward to Very Special Guest ALICE COOPER joining MÖTLEY CRÜE for an incredible package - Alice invented the genre and MÖTLEY CRÜE put steroids in it! "Real hard rock bands are hard to find these days," said Alice, continuing,"Motley has always gone on stage with one attitude and that's to blow the audience away.  That's exactly how we do it.  Putting Motley Crue and Alice Cooper together is going to be just what this summer really NEEDS.  We're going to go out there and tear it up, and I can't wait to see Motley on stage.  Motley Crue and Alice Cooper - A match made in... Armageddon?"

As documented in the Cessation Of Touring Agreement the band signed at the press conference today, the band will not tour after this Final Tour.  Band Attorney, Doug Mark of Mark Music & Media Law, explains “Other bands have split up over rancor or the inability of people to get along, but this is mutual among all four original members and a peaceful decision to move on to other endeavors and to confirm it with a binding agreement.”  Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, and Mick Mars will go their separate ways after the lengthy 2-year touring cycle.  Tommy Lee (drums) explains “Everything must come to an end!! We always had a vision of going out with a big fucking bang and not playing county fairs and clubs with 1 or 2 original band members! Our job here is done!!!”  Of the band’s tumultuous history, Mick Mars (guitar) adds "(It has been) more drama than ‘General Hospital’ - it keeps 'em watchin’ and they keep comin’ back.”  Vocalist, Vince Neil says of the Finality of the tour - “I'll miss playing with the guys but I won't quit playing rock and roll!! I feel there are a lot of great opportunities and exciting projects after Motley.”

The Final Tour will coincide with the film made from MÖTLEY CRÜE’s NY Times Best-Selling book The Dirt. Jeff Tremaine (Bad Grandpa) has signed on to direct the opus that is set to debut in theaters globally in 2015, coinciding with The Final Tour. The Dirt is not only one of the best selling rock books of all time but also one of the greatest rock books of all time because of its brutal honesty, its unique voice, its multiple perspectives on the same events and its first-person inclusion of all members of the same band. Most rock memoirs are salacious mud-slinging accounts of a single person and MÖTLEY CRÜE was adamant to include the perspectives of all four of its members. Tremaine’s intention is to make, not just a great movie about a band, but a great movie about four misfits who, despite themselves and everyone else, band together to overcome the odds and change the history of Rock & Roll. "The Dirt' is a movie I've wanted to make ever since I read the book in 2002,” says Tremaine. “I relate to the story on so many levels; my whole professional career has been about boys behaving badly, so I have a real connection to the material. It's awesome to be working with the band at such an exciting time in Motley Crue’s history."  The film will be produced by the members of MÖTLEY CRÜE, Rick Yorn, Julie Yorn, Erik Olsen and 10th Street Entertainment.

BIG MACHINE RECORDS, home to Country Superstars such as Taylor Swift and Tim McGraw has teamed up in a joint venture with MÖTLEY RECORDS and ELEVEN SEVEN MUSIC for the summer 2014 release of a Country Music Tribute To MÖTLEY CRÜE.  BIG MACHINE founder and CEO, Scott Borchetta, is among the legion of Country Music fans who love MÖTLEY CRÜE.  The country tribute album will show off the band’s quality songwriting with these fresh takes on their classic hit songs.  Among the artists already confirmed to be featured on the country tribute album is Florida Georgia Line. Borchetta says of the collaboration, "I have been a not-so-secret Crue fan from the beginning.  When manager Chris Nilsson called with the idea for a tribute album on Big Machine Records it was an immediate 'yes' from me!  Our album will highlight just how great the Motley Crue song catalog is.  At the end of the day, that's what will stand the test of time."

MÖTLEY CRÜE Fan Club members will get the exclusive first crack at tickets and VIP Packages, via a unique code, beginning on Wednesday, January 29th starting at 10am local time.  VIP ticket packages will be made available to the general public on Thursday, January 30th at 10am local time.  The general public ticket on-sale for most shows is Friday, January 31st.  All tickets and packages can be obtained via  ,, or via"
