(7/10) 2005 Burlington, Ontario, Canada: four young guys from the punk scene start up a new band. The name: The Creepshow. The band plays punk rock with quite some rockabilly and psychobilly elements. Here and there you also find some ska elements. It's an interesting mix which makes fun to listen to. The lyrics of the band are very much influenced by B-movies and horror movies.
In the last months the band had some changes in the line-up to diggest. The biggest change was probabaly at the mic, where Kendalyn Legaspi took over from Sarah Blackwood. In the meantime the band also announced Daniel Flamm as guitarist of the band. Daniel supported the band already on several tours. And last but not least the band has with Sandro s new drummer.
In these days the band released their fourth album which is called "Life after death". It definitely became a good record with a lot of great songs. I was esp. surprised by the good vocals by Kenda. I like here little bit husky voice which gives each song the right roughness. Even with catchy melodies it never becomes mainstream.
Listen e.g. the the great rock'n'roller "Last call". Great song and Chuck Berry would be proud. Or the scary opener "See you in hell". It creates a fantastic atmosphere and is a good start into "Life after death". "Born to lose" comes with great horn parts, which makes the song standing out from the others. The title track is also one of me faves. Fast forward and with a lot of "oohooo" sing along parts. Can became a live anthem of the band.
After I listened to the album I was actually reminded sometimes to German band Die Broilers, which The Creepshow was already touring with. Give "Life after death" a chance, esp. if you appreciate good punk rock with a lot of passion and feeling.
