CD review KING KOBRA "II"

King Kobra is back. After their 2011 album "King Kobra" the band released their new record called "II" a few days ago. Honestly, I was never the biggest fan of the band, but I have to admit that this CD really surprised me. Of course we should not expect a musical revolution, but "II" is a really good rock'n'roll album with a lot of good vibes.

Already the opener "Hell on wheels" makes no prisoners. A straight forward and fast song with a lot of energy. You can almost feel the train coming towards you. They second song reminds me a little bit to Mötley Crüe. The track has a great groove snd finds the way right into your mind.
Also songs like "Running wild" and "Don't keep me waiting" go into the same direction. Paul Shortino voice fits great to all those songs. It has that typical rough rock'n'roll spirit which makes the songs special.
"Got it coming" has a lot of blues and sounds almost a little bit like Whitesnake. With "Take me back" the album also contains a great ballad. It's just fun listening to this track. "Have a good time" gives you exactly what the title promise you -party feeling.
And there is a song called "The ballad of Johnny Rod". It has a great intro and outro plus a fantastic bluesy spirit. And it is obvious that Johnny also play with W.A.S.P. for some years.
"Deep river" and "We go round" are the more weaker songs on the album. They don't reach the level of the other once. But OK, we can live with this fact.

The band put all their experience together and created a kick-ass hardrock album which is a journey back into the 80's - and this is meant as a compliment. King Kobra makes fun and I hope to see them on stage soon, esp. in Europe.
