CD review NICOTINE NERVES "Nictotine Nerves

(7/10) Aarhus - Rock City? OK, this is a bit overdone, but there seems to be a vital rock scene in Denmarks second biggest city with Nictotine Nerves being a part of it. The Danish duo released their debut album a few weeks ago, featuring eight rock songs with various roots.

Garage rock, Ramones-influenced punk and some grunge are the main incredients of this rock outfit. None of the tracks on this album reaches an epical length. Most of what you get to hear is around two minutes long and right to the point. Nicotine Nerves' music comes without frills and decoration. Tunes like uptempo "Skin Tight Shoes" and anarchic "Rad" are great stuff, coming from a band enjoying their youth. Each of these tracks get out of the gates pretty well and even the calmer moments, like "Melted Waves" with some Nirvana references, makes fun.

Don't expect a musical revolution. This album is just fun to listen to, enjoying the wildness and freedom of youth. For older guys, like I am of, a nice energy boost and reminder of the 90's.
