CD review INQUISITION "Into the infernal reign of the ancient cult" Re-release

Veröffentlicht am 13. Januar 2015 von Markus W. in Inquisition, Black Metal, Death Metal, Heavy Metal, Dark Metal, CD Review, News

(6/10) "Into the infernal regions of the ancient cult" is the first re-release from Inquisition that comes via Season Of Mist. According to the label some more will follow. The original album was published already in 1998 after band founder Dagon hooked up with drummer Incubus. The result was a 10 tracks long black metal album that got quite some resonance in the underground. Sailing now under the flag of Season Of Mist allows the band for the first time to also reach a bigger audience.

The black metal Inquisition plays is slightly different from a lot of other bands. This has mainly to do with the vocals done by Dagon. His rasping way of singing, actually it is more spoken words, create a quite creepy atmosphere that let your blood run cold. It's a real different way compared with the screeching of most of the other black metal 'singers'.

The music itself supports this sinsiter vibe too. The songs aren't very fast, eventhough they have their blasting moments, like in the title track. But in general the tracks are kept in a moderate pace with quite melodic riffs.

I like the music on "Into the infernal reign of the ancient cult". Also the clean spoken words parts fit excellent into the song structures and add something to each track they are used. But I have to say that the vocals are just not my bag. They are with too little ups and downs what makes them monotonous. On an album with more than an hour it began to annoy me after a while. But at least they created something different and new. Would the album be an instrumental one or with other vocals it would be a '8' from mys side. So it became just a '6'.
