CD review MERCILESS TERROR "Vile extinction"

UK death metal band Merciless Terror will release their new album in October this year. The album will be called "Vile extinction and is, as far as I know, the first full-length record of the band. Two years ago they released already an EP called "Perpetual devastation".

The new album is a punch right into your face. The band plays powerful death metal with double bass blast parts, but also with groovy breaks here in there. I personally like the parts when they take out speed and play slower real heavy parts. Since the band has a great variety in their songs the album doesn't become boring.

The annoying part of the record is the production. The vocals and the guitars are pretty OK. But where is the bass. The bass lines are hard to listen and are mixed far into the back. The same goes for the drums, which sounds quite tinny. More bass would support the grooves much more and would make the album much exciting. So it is good songwriting with a bad production. It's an 8 for the songwriting and a 4 for a production. That feels a little bit sorry for the band. This was a missed opportunity.
