(7/10) Brazilian Nervosa has their second album out now. "Agony" is the name of the disc that follows the 2014 debut "Victim of Yourself".

The ones of you that listened to and liked the debut will also enjoy "Agony". The trio from Sao Paolo put twelve new songs on the album which stand for Kreator-influenced thrash metal.

Nervosa doesn't keep themselves busy with filgrane musical compostions. This album is a sonic punch that is meant to be a knock-out. Most of the tracks on "Agony" are quite short and do not reach the three minutes level, a clear sign for focus, roughness and power, supported by a diversified and dynamic sound.

All this is the benefit and the weakness of the album in one. I do like the forceful approach and with each song you can feel the passion of these three girl. But there is also the moment when the songs feel like the same thing only different. After a while I had the feeling that things get a bit redundant.

The only difference is called "Wayfarer" which is the last tune on "Agony". All of a sudden clean vocals take over, at least in the beginning. This sounds pretty cool and I think the band should do this more often. But no worries, the tune develops to another riff monster and as soon as you got used to it again there comes a twist you never would have expected. Out of nowhere some gospel-like a capella sounds take over as a kind of outro, something that is a true highlight on the album. It stays a secret why Nervosa doesn't make use of the full potential of Fernanda Lira's vocal range. It would definitely lift the level of diversity of Nervosa.

However, thrash fans should give this longplayer a fair chance.
