(9/10) Who needs Star Wars if you can also get Ziltoid? At least I prefer Devin Townsend's small little alien that is one the mission to find the best coffee.

It was on April 13 this year when Canadian guitar maniac Devin Townsend played a show at the legendary Royal Albert Hall in which he delivered a set that included 24 songs from different eras of the mastermind. No doubt that this show was sold out in no time and everybody who couldn't be there has now the pleasure of watching this spectacle on DVD/BluRay.

This special evening was split into two parts. The start was reserved for the entire "Dark Matters" album taken from the "Z2" release.

After an intro clip with Ziltiod the band enters the stage. By the way, talking about the stage; the scenary with huge digital media walls, musicians and choir is more than impressive. Actually 'bombastic' is the better word for what you can enjoy. This is a major production that is seeking for perfection by still including a lot of feeling and emotion. The Ziltoid set took a bit more than an hour and after a short break it's time for round two.

The second half of the concert was a 'best of...', covering milestones of Townsend's musical history. Those haven't been chosen by the master himself. Townsend let the fans decide which tracks they wanted to hear live. This was done by a Facebook voting and there was no doubt that the fans have chosen songs like "Namaste" and the genial "Lucky Animals".

It goes without saying that the production gives no cause of complaint. The sound of the release is excellent (and not overdone) and the same goes for the visuals. The filming was done with 14 cameras, directed by Paul M. Green.

This release is more than 'just' a show that was filmed. These discs are the capturing of an multilayered event that consisted out of music, show and play. Enjoy this moment of almost ultimate creativity combined with a high level of professionalism. Definitely more than just one 'wow' moment.
