CD review FATE'S RIGHT BAND "Smile" EP

(7/10) It wasn't too long ago when Swedish Fate's Right Band released their latest EP "Knucklebuster Hits". Now the guys from Umeå are back with a new five-track EP. "Smile" is a logical next step for the band, meaning that Fate's Right Band continues with their passionate hardrock.

"Black Heart of Stone" is the opener that feels in the beginning like a Guns'n'Roses inspired rocker before the Europe influences come more up to surface. It's a pretty cool bluesy rocker that sticks immediately.

"I Wasn't Ready" is the next track. It isn't that easy going as the opener and has some Styx-like melody lines in the verse. It takes a while to get into this track that is less catchy as the opener.

The swinging "My World is Falling" instead is build on a steady beat and a swinging melody. This tune is easy going and touches the fields of AOR. Good that the title track "Smile" is harder again before with "We Can Fake It" kicks in and rounds off this EP.

"Smile" is another good album from Umeå that should be checked by hard-/bluesrockers. Fate's Right Band don't reinvent the wheel, but the know damn good how to use it to roll on.
