CD review CHRIS CORNELL "Euphoria mourning"

(8/10) "Euphoria morning" was the first solo album by Chris Cornell. The iconic singer and frontman focussed on his solo career and other projects, like Audioslave, after the grunge legend Soundgarden disbanded.

Now, 16 years later, the solo debut will be re-released and you maybe thought that it was a typing error when I wrote "Euphoria mourning" in the header. No, it wasn't. Cornell's orginal wish of naming the longplayer "Euphoric mourning" wasn't  in the 90's that well received by the label. The result was the compromising title "Euphoric morning". This was corrected with the reissue and finally Cornell got his way and the record got it's name: "Euphoric mourning".

Furthermore the album went through a remastering process and is, next to CD and digital, also available on vinyl - for the first time.

The songs are of course the same as you know them from the original version. It's emotional rock songs that are often based on acoustic guitars. The solo album reminds more to the silent parts of "Black hole sun" from Soundgarden than to the riff based grunge of the Seattle four-piece. Some tunes come close to singer-/songwriter music - like the melancholic "When I'm down".

Due to the fact that the album is kept soft also Cornell's voice is mellow and melancholic. The screams, known from his releases with Soundgarden and Audioslave, aren't part of this solo album. It shows the singer from another angle that fits him pretty well.

All in all this re-release makes sense due to the remastering and the 'real' name. Eventhoug I based this review only on the digital version I think that the vinyl makes even more sense since the music deserves the warm vinyl sound.
