(8/10) 'Nothing new at Powerwolf'. That would probably a bit of a too easy statement since the five-piece recorded a new album. "Blessed & possessed" is the name of Powerwolf's sixth longplayer.  It follows "Preacher of the night" that has seen the light of day in 2013.

On the new longplayer Powerwolf stays true to themselves. If you have been a fan of the band so far you will also fall in love with "Blessed & possessed". The eleven songs live up to all Powerwolf trademarks. The tunes are very powerful, sound bombastic and they come with catchy melodies that allows you humming along after having heard the record for the first time.

One of the highlights is "Army of the night" - a song with hooks that do their job from the first moment on. The mighty beat of the tune makes it to a real headbanger too and I can see this song becoming a constant part on the setlist of the band.

That Powerwolf still knows how to play fast is what they prove on "Christ & combat". It is a sonic speed train with a lot of melody.

A song that is a bit different and slower got the title "Let there be light". It's a seven minutes long epos that benefits a lot from Attila Dorn's powerful voice. But also the melodic guitar lines make the tune to a highlight on the album - not to forget the sacral keyboard parts that became such a fundamental element of Powerwolf's sound.

Talking about 'sound'. "Blessed & possessed" is supported again by an excellent production that emphasis very much the bombastic appraoch of Powerwolf's music. Everything fits together perfectly.

Again, if you're a fan of the five-piece you will also like "Blessed & possessed" and Powerwolf might manages with the album to even gain some new fans. "Preachers of the night" went straight to the top of the German charts and I guess the same will happen to "Blessed & possessed".
