CD review WILSON "Right to rise"

(8/10) Wilson is a band I haven't heard before. That's why I was very curious about the sound of the guys. I don't know why, but I have expected more hardcore - maybe based on the cover.

But to my surprise it was energetic hardrock that reached my ears. And it was good stuff too. I was actually reminded to bands like The Almighty when I was listening to "Right to rise". Wilson plays hardrock - but not the polished mainstream version. These guys add a punch to their music and kick-ass. This punky hardrock is better than any energy drink.

The five-piece from Detroit recorded twelve songs that found their spot on the new longplayer. They prove the Detroit is really a 'rock city'. "Right to rise" is the second full-length album of the guys, loaded with dirty rock'n'roll.

The opener "Right to rise" sets the scene. It's a mean rocker that is pure headbanging stuff by not even being the best number on the album.

My favorits are tracks like "Crave". With the pumping bass and the melodic chorus the song is a real cracker. Also "All my friends" doesn't take any prisoners and the grooving "The flood" is an excellent track that is just damned cool.

Another piece that's worth to be mentioned is "Give em - hell". It's crunchy guitars and a chatchy melody that characterize this tune. It proves that you can create melodic hardrock songs without compromissing when it comes to heaviness.

And Wilson's "Right to rise" comes without any ballad. Honestly, I haven't missed those at all. Actually a softer song would have killed the punch of the album.

"Right to rise" is a cool hardrock album for those who prefer guitars more than hairspray.
