(7/10) The cover and the name of the band clearly indicates what to expect. The band from Portland delivers a combination of doom, metal and blues. They are a stable part of the doom scene in Portland. Witch Mountain started in 1997 and they are still around. Good stuff.

What makes the sound of the band special are the female vocals of Uta Plotkin. The combination of heavy doomy riff with the powerful and clean female vocals works pretty well.

The opener "Psycho animundi" reflects all those trademarks of the band already. The track has some almost fragile parts mainly with just the vocals and a few guitar chords while on the other hand there are heavy riff explosions that built a real counterpart to the silent parts.

Compared to the opener "Can't settle" is an almost swinging number. It's a bit faster and the tune sounds a bit lighter than "Psycho animunidi".

The heart of "Mobile of angels" is the ten minutes long "Your corrupt ways (Sour the hymn)". It's a slow track with a riff that accompanies you though the entire song. The clean vocals of Plotkin are amazing and the whole arrangement of the song reminds me to Avatarium. It's an impressive doom anthem that puts a spell on you.

After such a highlight it is difficult for the other songs to keep the level. The title track at least adds another compontent to the album. Silent and almost acoustic the tune spreads an oppresive atmosphere. It is a sphereful song with spoken words as vocals. It's storytelling with musical support. An interesting combination that works.

In general I have to say that the second half of the album became more silent. The heavy riffs are not that dominant anymore as they have been in the beginning. Still "The sharp truth takes" is an intesive doom rocker, just with some more blues and classic rock influences. What I really like with this song is the guitar solo towards the end. Well done and well placed.

"Mobile of angels" is a good doom album which should be checked by fans from Candlemas, Orange Goblin, YOB and Avatarium. It's worth it.
