CD review STATUS QUO "Frantic four's final fling - live"

Veröffentlicht am 27. August 2014 von Markus W. in Status Quo, Rock, Hardrock, News, CD Review

(*/10) When Status Quo started, I guess, a lot of you guys reading this review haven't even be born. This includes myself. It was in 1965 when the band started their unbelievable career which led to 28 albums, almost 100 singles and several live recordings.

Over time it has been the founding members Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt who kept Status Quo up and running. It was and is their passion that made the band surviving several changes in the line-up. Those two guys gave Status Quo the stability over all these years and are the figureheads of the rock'n'rollers.

In October 2012 it was Alan Parker who produced a documentary called "Hello Quo" which included a jam session of the original line-up with Rossi, Parfitt, Lancaster and Coghlan. This was the first time since 30 years that the guys had performed together again.

It seems that everybody had fun during this session and the result was five live shows with the founding members. This happened in 2013 and a few shows have been added in 2014.

One of the concerts, the one in Dubln, was now released as a CD/DVD. Since I only have the audio disc I focus on that one. Unnecessary to mention that Status Quo focus surely on the old songs during these gigs. Hits like "Caroline" have been performed as well as "Is there a better way" from the 1976 release "Blue for you". One of my alltime faves of Status Quo was part of the setlist as well. It's "Down down", the boogie rocker per excellence.

The sound of the album is very good. It might be a bit too good, but this doesn't matter. The thing that makes it still authentic is e.g. the fact that Francis Rossi's vocals doesn't meet every note. But again; who cares. The songs are alltime classics and the album has a very high entertainment factor. I guess it's even more fun with the DVD.

I think, that this document of music history should find a place in each rock collection. It's a MUST.
