CD review TRUCKFIGHTERS "Universe"

(7/10) Sweden rocks. Not only by the festival with the same name, but also in real life -24/7. Just thinking recently about bands like ISE, Dregen, Sabaton...not to forget the entire death metal scene. It's amazing how this country 'produces' good bands.

In these days another Swedish band releases a new album -  the Truckfighters. Founded 2001 in Orebro, the Trickfighters released already three full-length records. Now it is time to listen to their new album called "Universe". The album was already announced for autumn 2013 but had to be postponed. Release is now in January.

The band plays stoner rock. Their sound goes into the direction of bands like Kyuss and Queen Of The Stone Age. It's inetersting, that a band from cold Sweden plays that kind of music, since stoner rock is often connect to 'desert' due to the slow and humming sound. But I have to say that the trio does a good job.

"Universe" contains 7 songs, which doesn't seem to be a lot. But by considering also songs with 7 minutes and even 14 minutes, the album has a 'normal' length. A 45 minutes journey through the desert. And good to see that there is a constant mix between longer songs and shorter ones. This gives the album extra tension.

The highlight of the album is "Mastodont". With the almost 14 minutes the song creates the feeling of a long walk through the Sahara. Slow and heavy you take step by step while you pass some oasis and some fata morganas. Heavy guitar riffs accompany your way. Compared to this "Get lifted" is a pretty cool grooving song. With "Convention" the band placed a short track in the middle of the album. Short but intense. But my fave stays "The chairman" which was also released already earlier as an EP (see the review below). I like these releaxed funky parts in the song. 

The Truckfigherts released a cool stoner album which shows us, that the desert rock attitude also works outside the desert - like in Sweden.
