(9/10) This album is literally music in my ears. Heavy riffs, great melodies, powerful production and a lot of passion. That’s the new release from Silent Force called “Rising from the ashes”. Actually I could stop here with my review and could recommend going for this album, but that would be too easy.
“Rising from the ashes” is album number five in the bands history. And it was surprising to me that Alex Beyrodt found the time to write and produce it. Of course the latest release “Walk the earth” is from 2007 - so you could think that there was time enough. But Beyrodt was also part in quite some other bands and releases this year. It started in spring with his band Voodoo Circle. Than in summer Sinner released the re-recording of their old hits (“Touch of sin 2”) and in January 2014 it’s time for the new Primal Fear. It seems that he has an endless flow of great riffs and ideas for songs which is excellent for the fans.
“Rising from the ashes” is more than just a name for an album. After six years without the band some people thought already that the band doesn’t even exist anymore. But now, after also some turbulent years, Silent Force is back – and they are strong and heavy.
The album contains 10 songs. Each of them a killer, none of them a filler. It’s hard to mention some songs here since they are worth to be mentioned. My faves are the opener “Caught in their wicked game". This song is fast, heavy and a perfect choice for kicking off that record. Another one is the more midtempo song "Before you run”. All Silent Force trademarks are in that song. It has a great melody, excellent guitars and keyboards which contribute to the totallity of the song without becoming too dominant. A song with a great drive. "Anythime, anywhere" is a bit a more relaxed song. Not a ballad but a bit more catchy than maybe some others on the album. It gives you a bit air to breath since it follows "Born to be a fighter" which is energy pure.
Beyrodt is interested in many different style of heavy music. I think it was smart to focus with Silent Force only on melodic metal, to go for the classic rock music with Voodoo Circle and to give space to power metal with Primal Fear. That avoids mixing everything into one album with one band. Keep it clean.
“Rising from the ashes” became a great melodic metal album which I for sure can recommend to all of you.
